Initially inspired by the street photographers of the mid 20th-century who showed the world that there is elegance in the everyday and that it is important to remain present during our graceful slide through time. I see an image as a form of writing; capturing gesture and character… I remind myself of this when I am working; there is always something worth seeing and worth spending time with.
Within this gallery you will see three bodies of work (Nobody is Here, Color Negative & Failure To Advance) which I have be calling collectively… Up Until Now: a convergence; between myself, the subjects within the frame and finally the time and decisions which have brought the two together. The images range in their style and form of capture. Traditional street photography, looking at gesture and timelessness. A shift in perspective with Color Negative, what lies beneath our interpretations. Finally, turning the malfunction of a camera, an advance lever which began to skip and force multiple exposures, into spontaneous landscapes.
