Frequently Asked Questions

Prints

How archival are your prints?

We offer papers that can last up to 200 years, if displayed / stored properly. For example, Epson Enhanced Matte paper is rated at 40-70 years (70 if the paper is protected behind U.V. glass) and Canson’s PrintMaKing Rag is rated at up to 200 years (220 if the print is protected behind UV protected glass). With regard to archival properties, the environment where the print is displayed also matters. Prints that are exposed to direct sunlight will fade more quickly than prints that are not exposed to direct sunlight. For more detailed information on specific papers you can go to the ‘choosing a paper’ section of the site or visit Wilhelm Research site.

Another consideration is the ink. We use Epson Ultrachrome HDX inks which are currently one of, if not the highest rated archival inks available.

Prints will shift in color if you display them in rooms that have windows. You need to use UV protected glass or UV protected plexi glass when framing your prints to protect against that color shift.

Most ready-made frames from discount stores do not come with UV glass. It is not very expensive to go to your local glass or frame shop and purchase the UV glass separately.

*In addition try to avoid having your glass positioned directly against your prints as a permanent display option. When exposed to moisture, prints can stick to glass. A simple and inexpensive framing solution is to use plastic spacers. Any frame shop will know about these and can sell them to you even if you choose to frame your prints in ready made frames. If you have any questions, please call or email us.

Do you apply a protective coating to your prints?

We coat our canvas prints with a Matte UV coating which helps to protect the print from fading. For prints on paper you will want to use UV protected glass or plexi glass to protect your artwork.

Order Status / Shipping

Production Turnaround Time

We have a 3-5 business day turnaround time for individual orders. Shipping generally takes an additional 2-4 days. You will receive an email notification with tracking information once your print has shipped.

*If you would like a signed print, this may take slightly longer depending on where the artist lives and their availability. If the artist does not live in Missoula, there will be an additional charge to ship the prints to both the artist and you, the collector.

Shipping Costs

Paper & Ink Artists charges a $15 flat fee for shipping prints in the continental U.S. For international shipments, clients will be charged based on size and weight of the shipment. We ship via USPS Priority mail (generally: 2-3 day shipping). We can also provide overnight shipping for an additional fee.

How do I track my order?

You will receive an email with a tracking number as soon as your order has shipped.

My prints arrived in a tube. How should I flatten them?

If you are having your prints framed by a professional framer they can put your prints in a press for a few seconds and your prints will flatten right away. If you would like to flatten them yourself, check out this video for a good technique to do so. Time varies depending on the number of prints you are trying to uncurl.
